Women Veterans Business Center
The Women Veterans Business Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization headquartered in Houston (Texas). Ms. Marylyn R. Harris, RN, MS, MBA, a former Army Nurse and Gulf War Veteran, (along with her children Jamaar and Amaara), started the country’s first Women Veterans Business Center (WVBC) in 2010. The mission of the Center is, “to educate and empower Women Veterans (and Military Families) to start and grow “wealth-generating” Veteran-Owned Businesses.” The Center provides Business Training (“Themed Women Veterans Business BOOTCAMPS”), Business Outreach and Networking Events, Business Coaching and a Speakers Bureau. To date, the Center has outreached to over 25,000 Stakeholders nationally and has served as a pivotal Catalyst in growing the number of U.S. Women Veteran Owned Businesses to exceed 400,000 today. Ms. Marylyn R. Harris, is a sought after Speaker and Strategic Consulting Partner. Her previous Service and National Appointments include, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA Advisory Committee on Veterans Business Affairs) and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA Research Advisory Committee on Gulf War Veterans Illnesses). Ms. Harris served as the National Ambassador for the IVMF Veteran-Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (V-WISE) National Conferences. For over a decade, she has traveled the country recruiting, training and empowering Women Veterans to embrace Entrepreneurship. In 2013, Ms. Harris was honored at The White House by President Barack Obama as a “Champion of Change.”
