Gulf War – 90-91
Gulf War Illness: Exploring the Eye – Brain Connection
We are recruiting Veterans for a new DoD funded Gulf War Illness project. The study involves examining and taking pictures of the eyes of veterans who were actively enlisted during the Gulf War era. The goal is to compare eye inflammation and nerve status in veterans with and without Gulf War Illness. This will help us determine if the eye can be used as a biomarker of Gulf War Illness. This study may potentially help with disease diagnosis and/or targeted treatment. The study consists of two visits that occur one year apart. It involves filled out questionnaires of eye and general symptoms, undergoing an eye exam and imaging, and blood draw. Veterans will be compensated $100 for each visit. Please contact Kim Cabrera at (305) 575-7000 ext. 16992 or email her at kimberly.cabrera2@va.gov for more information.
