Gold Star Families Monument Unveiled in Miami-Dade County

On May 17, 2025, Miami-Dade County held a moving dedication ceremony to unveil the Gold Star Families Monument, now located at the Miami-Dade Military Museum and Memorial near Zoo Miami. The event drew a distinguished gathering of elected officials, service members, veterans, nonprofit organizations, and, most importantly, the families of fallen heroes.

The creation of this monument was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Woody Williams Foundation, Miami-Dade County, the Miami-Dade Military Museum and Memorial, and the Florida Department of Education.

Among those in attendance was Mrs. Georgie Carter Krell, a Gold Star Mother whose son, Bruce W. Carter, is the namesake of the Miami VA Medical Center. Her presence served as a poignant reminder of the profound sacrifices honored by this memorial.

Notable speakers at the ceremony included Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Dr. Anthony Atwood – Director of the Miami-Dade Military Museum, Brent Casey of the Woody Williams Foundation, Command Sergeant Major Hissong of U.S. Southern Command, Commissioner Natalie Orbis, and Commissioner Kionne McGhee, who also serves on the Military Commission.

Local nonprofit organizations, including Vet Info, were invited to participate in the event, underscoring the community’s deep respect and support for Gold Star Families.

The monument stands as a lasting tribute to the families of fallen service members, honoring their loved ones’ legacy and ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

City of Doral Honors the Fallen on Memorial Day

On May 26, 2025, the City of Doral observed a somber and heartfelt Memorial Day as the community came together for the 8th annual wreath-laying ceremony in honor of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

Vet Info has proudly supported this event for many years, working closely with the Doral Military Advisory Committee to help organize both Memorial Day observances and the Doral Military Family Day, held annually in one of Doral’s award-winning parks.

This year’s ceremony was well attended by veterans, residents, and visitors alike—all united in a shared moment of remembrance and gratitude.

The event was hosted by Doral Military Advisory Committee members Christopher Flynn, William “Bill” Fitzgerald, and William “Bill” Watts. Special guest speakers included Councilman Rafael Pineyro and Mark Pinilla, both of whom delivered powerful and thoughtful remarks. Also in attendance were Councilwoman Nicole Reinso. With regards offered by Mayor Christi Fraga who had prior commitments.

During his speech, Mark Pinilla reflected on the distinctions between Armed Forces Day, Veterans Day, and Memorial Day, helping attendees gain a deeper understanding of the significance of the day. Councilman Pineyro emphasized that “freedom is not free,” reminding all present of the sacrifices made by those who never returned home.

It was a solemn yet uplifting event—an opportunity for the community to come together in honor, respect, and remembrance of our fallen heroes.

The Robin Foundation is a Big Supporter of Vet Info and our mission to give Veterans and thier family members a safe and better quality of life. – Along with Suicide prevention we have teamed up with the Robin Foundation because

The Robin Foundation is dedicated to changing and saving lives at risk of overdose by supplying Narcan and delivering comprehensive training to individuals, families, and organizations on its proper administration. Our mission is to empower communities with the tools and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to overdoses effectively, ultimately working towards reducing the impact of substance abuse and saving lives.

Saving Lives

The Robin Foundation was co-founded by Chris Cavallo and his daughter Cristina in memory of Robin and Stefanie Cavallo, mother and daughter.

Robin was an activist and well-known throughout the Recovery community in South Florida. Robin, who was in active recovery for 17 years, was always willing to help others in need who were dealing with the disease of addiction. Robin
After surgery, she was prescribed pain medicine, which she became addicted to, and soon after, she died from an overdose. Chris and Robin’s daughter Stefanie who was Cristina’s twin sister, never fully recovered from her mother’s passing was
in and out of recovery for many years until she died from an overdose by the way of fentanyl poisoning.

The Cavallo family is committed to spreading a message of hope, recovery, and preventing other families from the same senseless tragedies by distributing Narcan as well as providing training to as many individuals, families, and organizations
as possible in South Florida about the opioid epidemic, as well as how to administer Narcan in case of an overdose.

The Robin Foundation is also committed to one day, having a facility for women and children who suffer from substance abuse disorder and mental health challenges.

The Robin Foundation’s vision is to create a community where lives are saved and transformed through the provision of free Narcan, comprehensive training, and ongoing support to those at risk of overdose. By fostering open conversations and understanding among families, neighbors, employees, and loved ones, we aim to shatter the stigma surrounding mental illness and addiction. Through our efforts, we strive to build a healthier, more compassionate community that embraces and supports individuals and families affected by these challenges. The Robin Foundation’s ultimate goal, as promised to Stefanie before her passing, is to build a recovery community for women and children with all the resources needed to thrive personally and professionally.
